Nation’s Public Library Leaders to Gather in Denver

Nation’s public library leaders to gather in Denver to discuss the library’s changing role in support of their communities

April 5 – 9 at the Colorado Convention Center

CHICAGO – Extraordinary work is being done by public libraries every day to meet the evolving needs of the communities they serve. To increase learning and expand the impact libraries have in the digital age, thousands of public library professionals and supporters will gather in Denver for the Public Library Association’s (PLA) 2016 Conference, April 5 – 9, at the Colorado Convention Center.

Today’s libraries are not just about what they have for people, but what they do for and with people. Public libraries offer training to support digital inclusion, business classes that foster economic development and serve as community hubs, bringing people and information together for learning and engagement.

PLA 2016 is the largest national conference dedicated to connecting and supporting the educational needs of public library professionals and stakeholders. The conference will offer more than 100 sessions and feature more than 600 exhibits showcasing the latest technology and services vital to public libraries, librarians and their users. PLA 2016 Conference speakers scheduled to appear include CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, comedian Tig Notaro, New York Times columnist Anand Giridharadas, award-winning author Sherman Alexie and Arianna Huffington, chair, president and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post.

The Public Library Association is a division of the American Library Association (ALA). PLA’s core purpose is to strengthen public libraries and their contributions to the communities they serve. Its mission is to enhance the development and effectiveness of public library staff and public library service.
