Garden will feature ideas, advice and landscaping inspiration for pet owners

Colorado Garden Foundation (CGF) announced today its new partnership with the Dumb Friends League, bringing the 58-year-old show’s first-ever pet-friendly garden to life during the annual Colorado Garden & Home Show Feb. 4-12, 2017 at the Colorado Convention Center.

The 2,000-square-foot garden will be showcased by Autumn Gold Landscapes and will include garden features that are compatible with and safe for pets. Elements of the garden include nontoxic plants, “dog-tough” turf, a pondless water feature, and more.

Staff from Autumn Gold will be at the booth to answer questions and hand out brochures to homeowners who are interested in designing a pet-friendly garden at home.

“This is our first year featuring a pet-friendly garden and our first time partnering with the Dumb Friends League,” said Jim Fricke, executive director of the Colorado Garden Foundation. “We chose this garden not only to help keep pets safe and gardens thriving for homeowners who own pets, but also to help highlight the Dumb Friends League and the important work they do in placing thousands of homeless animals with families every year.”

The Dumb Friends League is holding its annual Have a Heart for Homeless Pets telethon on Feb. 9 on 9NEWS/KUSA and hopes its partnership with the Colorado Garden & Home Show will increase visibility for the organization during the fundraising event. Dumb Friends League volunteers will be at the pet-friendly garden during limited hours throughout the show to talk about the organization and the importance of creating a safe and happy home for pets that need one.

“We are thrilled to partner with Colorado Garden Foundation and participate in the Colorado Garden & Home Show to help raise awareness for the Dumb Friends League and the animals we serve,” said Bob Rohde, president and CEO at the Dumb Friends League. “It is our goal to place pets in homes free from harm, and the pet-friendly garden is a great way for pet owners to come and learn how to keep their animals safe while outdoors.”

In addition to learning about nontoxic plants and dog-friendly turf, show attendees will learn about landscape design ideas such as dog runs, the types of mulch, stone and other garden materials that are best suited for use with pets, and more. The pet-friendly garden will also feature a doggy pool and other creative ideas for how to get the most enjoyment out of your outdoor space for both homeowners and their furry companions.

Along with the pet-friendly garden, this year’s Colorado Garden & Home Show will feature an entry garden in partnership with the Denver Zoo, the first-ever kids’ zone with a playground, balloon animals and coloring activities for kids, 50 free (with admission) educational seminars covering a variety of home topics, and more.
