Beetle Kill Wood

Did you know that the wood used for this Information display was created using lodgepole pine wood that were killed by the mountain pine beetle?

he lodgepole pine makes up approximately 8% of Colorado's 22 million acres of forest. The beetle infestation has significantly impacted the lodgepole pine, with almost 70% having been damaged or killed. Thus far, the states northern mountains have been the most heavily impacted. It is estimated that beetle kill could result in a deforestation the size of Rhode Island.

However, there are many efforts in place to help slow the spread of the infestation. Use of the beetle kill wood for this project and others help to support the mitigation efforts to slow the spread of the disease, reduce the potential of fire danger, and assist in the restoration of forest health.
